Join the Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA) and become part of an energetic team of advocates that provide a wide-range of legal services aimed to address issues that disproportionately impact the poor. These services include litigation, providing training and technical assistance, and community education.

NLSLA is seeking a Staff Attorney for its collaborative project with the Van Nuys Family Justice Center (FJC). The ideal candidate will be a skillful attorney who can excel in a fast-paced, dynamic anti-poverty law practice and is capable of fiercely advocating on behalf of NLSLA clients in multiple forums. The candidate must have a demonstrated passion and commitment to public interest law and prior experience serving low-income individuals and client groups, with a sensitivity to those in crisis. Preferred candidate will have experience in immigration law and/or representing victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The candidate will also possess strong research and organizational skills; the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; and well developed analytical skills. Of critical importance is that the candidate be self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

Compensation:
Starting Salary $54,165 - Commensurate with experience. Excellent Benefits which include: choice of medical, dental, vision; life and disability insurance plans; 125 plan; 403(b) with employer contribution, loan reimbursement, bilingual pay supplement, sick and vacation pay, and 13 employer-paid holidays.

Duties and Responsibilities:
This staff attorney position will focus on immigration, domestic violence, sexual assault, crime victim, and family law matters. They will be responsible for representing survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault with their immigration petitions (U, T Visas and VAWA) and provide assistance in family law disputes, restraining order hearings, and other legal proceedings involving victims of crime. Attorney will be located at both the FJC and Pacoima offices. Attorney will engage in outreach and education to service providers and the community. Frequent travel to other NLSLA branch offices, courts, government agencies, shelters and community-based organizations throughout southern California is required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be licensed and eligible to practice law in California. Experience in immigration law and/or representing victims of domestic violence strongly preferred. Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred.
